Cornwall FA is excited to kick off the season with our first Coach Development Event, hosted in partnership with Plymouth Argyle FC Academy. This Games for Understanding session will be led by:

  • Jamie Lowry – Plymouth Argyle FC Academy U18s Manager
  • Niall Cully – Plymouth Argyle FC Academy Coach

Event Overview:

This Coach Development Event is designed to help coaches improve their understanding of various game formats through the use of small-sided games and match scenarios. The session will explore different ways to implement Games for Understanding, which focuses on using game-related drills to enhance decision-making, problem-solving, and tactical awareness in players.

Coaches will gain insights into:

  • Playing Style: Understanding how to adapt playing styles across different game scenarios and formats.
  • Age Phase Game Formats: Tailoring practices to suit specific age groups, including 7v7, 9v9, and 11v11 formats.
  • Pitch Size Returns: How pitch size affects team shape and player roles.
  • Phases of the Game: Build the Attack, Create the Attack, Finish the Attack, Low Block, Mid Block and High Press.

Who Should Attend?

This event is open to all football coaches, from grassroots to more experienced coaches, who are looking to enhance their tactical understanding of different game formats and improve their coaching methods.

Whether you're coaching younger age groups or adult teams, this session will provide valuable tools to take back to your teams and training sessions.
